ATLAS OF TAROT
collaboration with Solveig Weimar

Traditional Tarot is a deck of playing cards, rooted in 15th-century Italy. Since the 18th century, occultists and mystics have used tarot as a tool for gaining insight into the past, present, and future. In their graduation project, Antonia and Solveig aim to modernize the traditional Tarot deck.

This deck symbolizes balance by introducing non-human archetypes and moving away from classic figures like the King and Queen. By presenting all the cards in a non-hierarchical system, they convey the interconnectedness of all aspects of life. Depicted in a painted atlas, mapping the intertwined connections of all cards.

While traditional tarot is read using individual cards, this modernized version introduces a new approach by highlighting the intertwined qualities between the figures. The painting and reading design reflect our belief in the timeless relevance of tarot's wisdom, but with a contemporary update.

Solveig created the themes and linked the deck in a balanced manner to different analogies from the animal, fungi, bacteria, and plant worlds, while preserving its depth. She also curated the meaning behind each card into a cohesive whole.
Antonia focused on translating the written meanings into symbols, the painting, and the design of the atlas’s visual identity.
